German Literature Companion:

'Septembermorgen'

‘Septembermorgen’, a poem of six short lines, composed by E. Mörike in 1827 while walking from Köngen to Nürtingen. It is an evocation of the mood of a landscape at a particular moment, achieved with an economy and precision recalling Goethe's ‘Über allen Gipfeln’. Mörike's poem, which begins ‘Im Nebel ruhet noch die Welt’, at first bore the title ‘Herbstfrühe’.
