Joint venture

The business is a 50-50 joint venture between NedRailways and Serco Group. NedRailways is a fully owned subsidiary of NS, Dutch Railways, the former state railway company of the Netherlands. Serco, a UK-based public company, is an international provider of outsourced public sector services, and an operator of public transport systems such as London's Docklands Light Railway. The joint venture also submitted an unsuccessful bid for the West Midlands passenger rail franchise period that began in 2007 (awarded to London Midland.)[4]

Objective

The objective of the joint venture is to operate passenger rail services in Great Britain.[5]

Potential service

In February 2009, Serco-NedRailways were shortlisted as a possible company to run the Tyne and Wear Metro service in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK.[6]
