(b Porto Civitanova, 10 Dec 1919). Italian bass-baritone. He sang at La Scala from 1949 (Il matrimonio segreto) and appeared at Glyndebourne (1951-61) as Mozart's Alfonso, Guglielmo and Leporello and Rossini's Figaro and Dandini. He sang in the USA from 1961 (Chicago and San Francisco) and his buffo artistry (as Dulcamara) was admired at Covent Garden in 1974.
