Seven Wise Men

Asian Mythology: Seven Wise Men

An Indo-Iranian series of tales, the Seven Wise Men tells of the son of a king who is taught by a wise man called Sindbad (not Sindbad the sailor). As the prince must learn to control his emotions, he is ordered by his tutor to be silent for a week. During that time, his stepmother attempts to seduce him. She tells the king a false tale for each day of the week about how the prince supposedly tried to seduce her, but each tale is refuted by one of seven sages. After the week is over the prince tells his father the truth and is exonerated.
