Dictionary: Sha·ba   (shä') pronunciation


A region of southeast Congo (formerly Zaire) bordering on Zambia. It proclaimed itself the republic of Katanga in 1960 and seceded from the rest of the country. The insurrection was put down in 1963 with the aid of United Nations troops.
