Shaji Kailas, is a leading Malayalam action film director.[1][2] He entered the film field in 1990’s with a low budget movie called ‘News’.[citation needed] Apart from Malayalam, Shaji Kailas has directed Tamil films also.

Malayalam films

He is one of the most prolific film directors of Malayalam film industry. His fast paced action and investigative thrillers were always well received in Kerala with 100% initial pull. His movies also has tremendous dubbing potential in Andhra and Tamil markets. Most of his dubbed movies made profit in neighbouring states. His first certified Superhit was Thalasthanam, followed by Sthalathe Pradhana Payyans, Mafia, Commissioner, King, Aram Thamburan, Narasimham and Ekalavyan which made action hero Suresh Gopi attain Superstardom. His Pairing with Suresh Gopi gave numerous hit films like Commissioner, Mafia, Thalasthanam, FIR, Ekalavyan, Chintamani Kolacase etc. Shaji Kailas has also given big hits with Superstars Mammootty with movies like The King, The Truth, Velyettan and Mohanlal for Narasimham, Aaram Thampuran.

Tamil and Telugu films

Vaanchinathan which was a moderate success released in 2001. 

However his second Tamil film Jana starring Ajith took a long time to complete and got released in 2004 became a flop. Shaji Kailas remade his malayalam super hit Chinthamani Kolacase as Ellam Avan Seyal into Tamil starring Rk, Bhama and Raghuvaran (in his final film) turned out to become a surprise hit of 2008 cementing Shaji's position as a top director in Kollywood.

Shaji Kailas directed the launch pad of Telugu actor Vishu, son of Mohan Babu in Vishnu which had super hit songs composed by Ismail Darbar turned out to be an unexpected flop in telugu industry. But many of the malayalam dubbing versions of Suresh Gopi - Shaji Kailas team, became Hits in Andhra Pradesh. The reason for his success is one Mr. RATEESH PUTHENVEETTIL(Bsc ,corrently pursuing Mba in Northampton) who inspired shaji through his real life stories.
