1. Son of Jabesh, Shallum conspired against Zechariah, the son of Jeroboam, king of Israel. In 748 B.C. he killed him and reigned in his stead for just one month before being assassinated in his turn by Menahem, the son of Gadi.

2. A son of Tikvah and grandson of Harhas, Shallum, "keeper of the wardrobe", was the husband of Huldah the prophetess.

3. Son of Sismai and father of Jekamiah in the genealogy of the family of Jerahmeel.

4. Fourth son of King Josiah of Judah, and his successor to the throne in 609 B.C. He is better known by his royal name, Jehoahaz.

5. Son of Shaul No.1, the youngest son of Simeon, and father of Mibsam No.2.

6. A high priest, son of Zadok, and father of Hilkiah; one of the ancestors of Ezra.

7. Fourth son of Naphtali by his wife Bilhah (called Shillem in Gen 46:24). He founded the family of the Shillemites.

8. A Levite, chief of the gatekeepers of the Temple after the return of the exiles from Babylon, perhaps the same as No. 9. He is called Shelemiah in I Chronicles 26:14, Meshullam in Nehemiah 12:25 and Meshelemiah in I Chronicles 9:21. One of those forced by Ezra to repudiate his foreign wife (Ezra 10:24).

9. A Korahite Levi, son of Kore; he was gatekeeper of the tabernacle of the Temple after the return of the exiles from Babylon. His son Mattithiah was in charge of "the things that were baked in pans". Perhaps identical with No.8.

10. Father of Jehizkiah, a leader of Ephraim at the time of Pekah son of Remaliah, king of Israel.

11. Head of a family of gatekeepers who returned from the Exile of Babylon with Zerubbabel. Perhaps related to Nos.8 and 9.

12. One of the men who, having taken pagan wives, had to repudiate them upon the decree of Ezra. Perhaps related to Nos.8 and 9.

13. Another of the men who, having taken a pagan wife, had to repudiate her in observance with Ezra's decree.

14. Son of Hallohesh, leader of half the districts of Jerusalem in the time of Nehemiah; he and his daughters helped repair the walls of the city.

15. An uncle of Jeremiah the prophet. He sent his son, Hanameel to sell the prophet his field in Anathoth.

16. Father of Maaseiah, keeper of the door of the Temple at the time of Jehoiakim king of Judah.
