- This article is about the metro station. For information on the train station of that name, see Shanghai Railway Station
Shanghai Railway Station (simplified Chinese: 上海火车站; traditional Chinese: 上海火車站; pinyin: Shànghǎi Huǒchē Zhàn) is an interchange station of the Shanghai Metro.
This station is part of Line 1, Line 3 and Line 4. The trains for Line 3 and Line 4 share the same above-ground platforms.
In addition to being an interchange between metro lines, the station facilitates transfer between the metro system and Shanghai's main railway station. As in many cities, crime figures around the railway station are higher than in the rest of the city. A tunnel leads directly from the concourse of the metro station to the concourse of the train station.
The transfer from Line 1 to Line 3/Line 4 is actually quite long. Both metro stations are located on the different sides of the train station with a long tunnel connecting both. Halfway along the transfer tunnel there is a branch that goes directly into the train station. Walking from one metro station to the other takes between 10 and 15 minutes.
