Biography

Part DJ, part producer, part label owner, and one half of the well known house music duo, Deep Dish, Sharam (born Sharam Tayebi) first hit the big time in his partnership with fellow DJ Ali "Dubfire" Shirazinia and their 1998 release Junk Science. Over the course of 15 plus years and even more equally successful releases, Deep Dish became a name to be reckoned with in the scene, and both Sharam's and Ali's stars rose higher and higher. Eventually founding their own Deep Dish label the two would go on to remix tracks for some of the world's biggest pop performers, including Madonna, Dido, and the Rolling Stones. As a solo artist, Sharam hit the big time in 2006 with his remix of the Eddie Murphy classic "Party All the Time." The track became ubiquitous at that year's Ibiza holiday season, and kindled a battle amongst larger labels to release the track internationally. Sharam counted a large number of awards for his work on his resume as well, winning a Grammy in 2002 (for Dido's "Thank You") and the Ibiza DJ award in 2004. He continued to pursue the business end of music running not only Deep Dish, but heading up (with Ali) Yoshitoshi Recordings and Shinichi Recordings. Throughout the busy schedule and numerous projects, both Ali and Sharam kept a consistent touring schedule, featuring in clubs all over the world. ~ Chris True, All Music Guide

Biography

Deep Dish (1991 - present)

The duo first met in Washington, D.C. around 1991 when they were accidentally double-booked at a club. Soon after, they formed Deep Dish Records and their work captured the attention of Danny Tenaglia and Tribal America Records, which put out the duo's first progressive-house compilation, Penetrate Deeper, in 1995. They have since released a number of mix CDs. However, what catapulted Deep Dish to prominence was the release of their debut album, Junk Science, released on the now defunct UK label DeConstruction and a dismal stateside release through Arista Records. They also own and run dance music record labels Deep Dish, Yoshitoshi Shinichi, and Yo. In addition, they owned and operated a retail store (also named Yoshitoshi) in the Georgetown area of D.C., which sold dance records and clothing. The store closed in 2003, although their labels continue to release music, mostly on the 12 inch single vinyl format.

Solo (2006 - present)

In 2006, Sharam released Global Underground: Dubai. The compilation was described as being "a double header CD that kicks the dust outta the dance with its skywards soars, desert storming dirtiness and seductive sensuality" by DJMAG. Sharam also mentioned that "Dubai makes you wish you were in the club enjoying it live". In 2006, Sharam also released "PATT (Party All the Time)". A stand-out record in Ibiza's 2006 session which has been talked about during the whole year right after the 2006 Winter Music Conference (WMC) or IDMA in Miami that Sharam's "PATT" made a great selection during the 2006 Christmas season on Data. It is true PATT was a huge anthem for 2006's Ibiza season and has been front of box for the world's DJ elite for several months. Now signed to Data from Deep Dish's Yoshitoshi label, it's being tipped as one of the biggest club records of 2006. To date, Pete Tong has played it 8 times on BBC Radio 1 (and it became an "essential new tune"), with Jo Whiley, Sara Cox, Judge Jules (Tried & Tested) and Dance Anthems also on board plus Judge Jules having played it twice on one show alone. Heavy support also comes from Kiss[clarification needed], Capital[disambiguation needed], and XFM amongst others. It is a tribute to the Eddie Murphy song, "Party All the Time", produced by Rick James which became a U.S. hit in 1985. Sharam, being a fan of the legendary comedian, originally put the track together for just himself to play. But after giving a few copies to friends and DJs who would give a great dance floor response, the track quickly took a life of its own and it shows all the hallmarks of a crossover hit. PATT itself is a peak time synth-driven track demonstrating once again that Sharam, like all great artists, refuses to be constrained by hype and genres.

On March 27, at Miami's Winter Music Conference, Sharam announced the pre-release party for his new album Get Wild, released March 31 2009 (for digital release) and April 7 2009 (CD release) which features his hit "The One". He also created a track with Tommy Lee which they presented at Miami's Cameo. [2] In April 7, 2008, Sharam's track "Get Wild" was selected by BBC Radio 1's Pete Tong as a WMC Essential New Tune. [3] On April 24, his latest track, "The One" featuring Daniel Bedingfield debuted at number four and reached #1 in the UK Cool Cuts Chart. [4] The vocals for the song were re-recorded by Bedingfield from his song "If You're Not the One", the song includes new verses. As a single it has been remixed by Joachim Garraud and David Guetta. [5]

Sharam’s debut studio album “Get Wild” was released on April, 7th 2009 on Ultra Records. The album features superstar collaborators including Patsy Cline, Kid Cudi, Tommy Lee, Chuck D, Diddy, Daniel Bedingfield, and more.

One of the disc’s landmark tracks, “She Came Along” integrates elements of Patsy Cline’s legendary country song “Strange” with vocals by hip-hop sensation Kid Cudi. VIBE.COM picked it up as a top 5 track.([1])

Get Wild is available in two formats: a single-disc version and a collector edition consisting of 22 original songs spread over two CDs, titled WildDish and SideDish, of which only 2500 will be made. The songs range from house gems like "Get Wild" (Essential Miami WMC Tune of 2008), the techno-infused summer anthem "Texi" (hailed as one of the top Ibiza records of 2008) and its darker sibling stormer "Crazi" (praised by the who’s who of the techno scene as the sleeper record of the fall of 2008), to releases such as "Patt With Diddy," a new version of his hit single “PATT” featuring the hip-hop artist and "The One" with Daniel Bedingfield. “PATT” and “The One” hit Top 10 and Top 20 respectively in many international markets. ([2])

Sharam is currently touring his “Get Wild” live show worldwide. He has produced a show incorporating guest appearances by the featured artists on the album, and visual elements from a spaghetti-Western themed short film, which he wrote and directed. The show also incorporates videos for the title track "Get Wild" and the single “She Came Along” with Kid Cudi, which he also directed. ([3])
