Review

The soundtrack to the computer-animated comedy film Shark Tale had contributions from several stars of the period, with most of the material drawn from the mainstream pop, urban contemporary and rap scene. While the duet by Christina Aguilera and Missy Elliott on an update of the disco hit "Car Wash" was the track that was pushed, the disc also included new songs from Justin Timberlake and Timbaland, Avant, D12, JoJo, and Ludacris. Other big names included Mary J. Blige, whose "Got to Be Real" also featured a contribution from Will Smith (who voiced the leading character in the film), and Ziggy Marley, who dueted with Sean Paul on "Three Little Birds." It's cheerful (sometimes to the point of silly), unmemorably ordinary commercial music from the middle of the 21st century's first decade, with more ballad-like numbers like India Arie's "Get It Together" breaking up the generally beat-heavy atmosphere. ~ Richie Unterberger, Rovi
