Plot

Advertised with the tag line "Bad Girls Gone Good," the tongue-in-cheek espionage series She Spies was comprised of elements previously trotted out on Charlie's Angels, It Takes a Thief, and even Ally McBeal. Three convicted female felons -- con artist Cassie (Natasha Henstridge), computer hacker D.D. (Kristin Miller), and street hustler Shane (Natashia Williams) -- were brought together in an experimental program dreamed up by Jack Wilde (Carlos Jacott), an operative for the Bureau of Allied Intelligence Tactics (aka B.A.I.T.), a secret government agency. The girls were afforded the opportunity of a full parole if they agreed to work together as undercover agents; indeed, they would have to work together, for if one of the ladies strayed from her duties, all of them would be thrown back in the slammer (the trio wore special bracelets which monitored their behavior). Although there was plenty of action and suspense, the emphasis was on humor and pulchritude, of which both were in abundance. Created by Vince Manze, She Spies premiered July 20, 2002, on NBC, launching a four-week "preview" before the series' official September debut. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

She Spies is an action-adventure television show that ran from September 9, 2002 until May 17, 2004, in two seasons. The show was sold into syndication but the first four episodes premiered on the NBC network, whose syndication arm was one of the producers. Disappointing ratings during the show's second season led to its cancellation after season two ended. She Spies bore noticeable production and directive similarities with Charlie's Angels.

Contents

Plot

Three female convicted felons who were incarcerated for electronic crimes ("DD"), con tricks ("Cassie") and battery ("Shane") get paroled out of prison in exchange for work as secret operatives for the US government under 'ComCent',a branch of the ISD. In addition, the trio has to answer to a special agent in charge of success of their operations and of making sure that the terms of their conditional release are consistently abided by.

Comedic and chick flick elements

She Spies had very strong comic and chick flick elements which in many instances proved even more relevant to the storytelling than the spy-related situations and gadgets themselves. The type of humor changed markedly from season one to season two, with the former containing much self-referential humor and breaking of the "fourth wall", while both these elements were removed in season two.
