Mar 17, 1895. A member of the original Three Stooges (with Moe Howard and Larry Fine), Howard was born Samuel Horwitz at Brooklyn, NY. He teamed with brother Moe as comic relief with vaudeville entertainer Ted Healy in the early 1920s. In 1925, Larry Fine joined them to create the Three Stooges. Shemp left the trio in 1932—little brother Curly replaced him—and had roles in many films. Upon Curly’s retirement in 1946, Shemp rejoined the Stooges until his death on Nov 23, 1955, at Hollywood, CA.
