Shih-Ching Tsou is a Taiwan-born film director and co-creator of Take Out.[1]
Born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan, Tsou came to New York for her Master's degree in Media Studies at The New School.[2] It was at The New School where she met Sean Baker. Together they co-created the feature film "Take Out", which they financed themselves with a budget of US$3,000.[3]
Although filmed in 2003, it was five years before "Take Out" was released.[4] It was premiered at the Slamdance film festival, won the Regal Cinemas Dreammaker Award, and the Grand Jury Prize (Best Feature award) at the Nashville Film Festival.[3] It was also nominated for John Cassavetes Award at the Independent Spirit Awards[2] in 2009.[2] It is a social-realist drama about an undocumented Chinese immigrant in New York City. CAVU Pictures released "Take Out" in theaters nationwide in 2008. Currently "Take Out" is available on DVD, and Netflix, distributed by KINO International.
Tsou is also one of the Executive Producers on Baker's third feature "Starlet", finished production in September 2011. Tsou is currently working with Baker on their second co-helmer, "Left Handed Girl", a family drama set in a night market in Taipei, Taiwan, which will be shot in Spring 2012.
