The prime tariff unit for general maritime cargo, typically 40 ft3 (1.133~ m3), usually with concomitant weight restrictions, e.g. 1 long ton, reflecting the fact that, while a ship's hold capacity is limited by volume, the ship's buoyancy is limited by weight. See Table 47.
