The .sic generic top-level domain, as abbreviation of SICULITAS (Székely) was requested at ICANN in 2009 and accepted on 13th of May 2009.
The new .SIC TLD is requested upon the initiative of the Szekler National Council for presenting Szeklerland on the Internet. A domain name for Szeklerland makes it possible that Szekler self-governments, institutions, companies, private individuals have an Internet presence.
ICANN accepted the .sic TLD together with other nine regional domain names for Quebec, Scotland, Bretagne, Cornwall, England, Wales, Leon, Basque country and Galicia.
