Sidney Wood (born November 1, 1911) was an American male tennis player.
Wood was born in Black Rock, Connecticut. In his career he has won one major tournament, Wimbledon Championships, in 1931 at the age of 19, and reached one Davis Cup final in 1934. He is the father of David, Colin, Sidney II and W. Godfrey Wood, and he lives in Southampton, NY and Palm Beach, Florida.
Sid Wood's son Colin Wood is the subject in Diane Arbus' famous 1962 photograph Child with Toy Hand Grenade in Central Park.
Son David Wood lives in New York and works for a law firm. His other son, Godfrey, lives in Maine and still holds the collegiate season hockey record for goals against average in 1962 (1.21 GAA), as a goalie for Harvard. His save percentage of .945 ranks second in all time NCAA standings (only .001 behind .946).
Sidney Wood's son Sidney Wood II, a natural athlete and star Yale tennis player, was killed in an early morning car accident along with teamates on a North Carolina highway.
