Sieben Legenden, a volume of religious legends published by G. Keller in 1872. The stories, the writing of which was spread over twenty years, afforded him a relaxation from his rather bleak positivism. The tone of the legends varies from the sympathetic to the playful, and from the playful to the critical; it is apparent that they are written by an unbeliever, but mockery is absent from this graceful and engaging collection. The legends are: (1) Eugenia; (2) Die Jungfrau und der Teufel; (3) Die Jungfrau und der Ritter; (4) Die Jungfrau und die Nonne (these three form a trilogy on the B.V.M.); (5) Der schlimm-heilige Vitalis; (6) Dorotheas Blumenkörbchen; (7) Tanzlegendchen.
