The Sieges of Haddington were a series of sieges staged at the Royal Burgh of Haddington, East Lothian, Scotland, which were part of the Anglo-Scottish Wars, more specifically, the War of the Rough Wooing. After Sir James Hamilton, 2nd Earl of Arran's defeat at the Battle of Pinkie, he went and took Haddington, with 5000 troops including French mercenaries. Afterwards, Francis Talbot, 5th Earl of Shrewsbury took it back with nearly 15000. These two kept taking it from each other, back and forth. Eventually, Hamilton took it permanently. After an English army of 6000, under Henry Manners, 2nd Earl of Rutland, was starved before it could take it.[clarification needed]
