Gata, Sierra de (syār'rä THā gä'), mountain range, W Spain. Between the valleys of the Douro and Tagus rivers, it separates León from Estremadura. Its highest point is the Jálama peak (5,577 ft/1,700 m).

Description

The Sierra de Gata is located in the northwest of the province of Cáceres, which is in the autonomous community of Extremadura.

The most important mountains of Sierra de Gata are (from West to East):

  • Mesas 1.265 m
  • El Espinazo 1.330 m
  • Jálama 1.492 m
  • Jañona 1.367 m
  • Bolla Chica 1.408 m
  • Bolla 1.519 m
  • Arrobuey 1.412 m
  • La Corredera 1.456 m
  • Peña Canchera 1.592 m

Comarca

Sierra de Gata is also the name of the comarca that consistst of 18 municipalities in that area: Acebo, Cadalso, Cilleros, Descargamaría, Eljas, Gata, Hernán Pérez, Hoyos, Perales del Puerto, Robledillo de Gata, San Martín de Trevejo, Santibáñez el Alto, Torrecilla de los Ángeles, Torre de Don Miguel, Valverde del Fresno, Villamiel (Trevejo), Villanueva de la Sierra and Villasbuenas de Gata.
