Veterinary Dictionary: Silybum marianum

Plant member of the family Asteraceae; has a very high feed value but a high nitrate content. May cause nitrate–nitrite poisoning in ruminants. Called also Carduus marianus, variegated thistle, milk thistle, bull thistle, St. Mary's thistle.
