Simone Inzaghi (born April 5, 1976, in Piacenza, Italy) is a professional footballer who plays as a centre forward for the Serie A club Atalanta on loan from Lazio. He was very popular with Lazio fans, but due to his poor form in recent years, he has been relegated to the bench.
He has previously played for Piacenza Calcio, Carpi, Novara Calcio, A.C. Lumezzane, Brescello and U.C. Sampdoria. Inzaghi has also represented the Italian national football team.
He is the brother of Filippo Inzaghi, who is also a professional footballer. He has a son, Tommaso, born April 29, 2001 with ex-girlfriend model/actress Alessia Marcuzzi.
Playing career
Inzaghi started playing professional football in the 1993-94 season with his hometown team Piacenza, although he did not get to play a first team game in that season. The next season he was loaned out to Serie C1 side Carpi, where he played five games. His first goal came in the 1995-96 season, playing for Novara in Serie C2. After two more loan stints, at Lumezzane in 1996-97 and Brescello in 1997-98, Inzaghi came back to Piacenza, and played his first game for the team (also his first Serie A game) during the 1998-99 season. He scored a total of 15 goals in 30 games for Piacenza that season.
The next season he was signed by SS Lazio. He had a productive first season at his new club, scoring 7 goals in 22 Serie A games, and 9 in just 11 Champions League matches (including four in a single game against Olympique de Marseille at 14 March 2000). He also made his debut for the Italian national football team on 29 March 2000 against Spain. Lazio went on to win the Scudetto, as well as the Coppa Italia that season. Inzaghi won the Coppa Italia again with Lazio in 2004.
In the 2004-05 season Inzaghi was involved in a one-year player exchange with Fabio Bazzani, going to Sampdoria for the season. He returned in 05/06 and stayed for 06/07, with very few appearances.
