Simran Sethi

Simran Sethi (born October 12, 1970, in Munich, Germany) is an American journalist, television producer and activist of Indian origin. She graduated cum laude in 1992 from Smith College with a BA in sociology and gender studies. In 2005, Sethi was awarded a MBA in sustainable business by the Presidio School of Management in San Francisco.

Career

Sethi began her media career in 1993 as a documentary film producer for MTV. In 1994, she became a host/producer for MTV Networks Asia News, eventually taking the anchor chair at that program in 1995. She co-created and ran the news department for MTV India in 1996. She anchored and produced their news broadcast until 1997, after which she developed her own production company, SHE TV.

Sethi returned to the United States in 1999 and hosted Daily Remix for Oxygen Media. After working as a consultant for business and activist groups, she became the anchor/writer for the public television series Ethical Markets. Sethi is the contributing author (with Hazel Henderson) to the companion book for that series, Ethical Markets: Growing the Green Economy.^[1]

Since 2006, Sethi has hosted news for the environmental website TreeHugger.com, which earned a Vloggie for Best Green video blog under her management. She is a host and writer of Sundance Channel's The Green, a commentator and story consultant on the Sundance Channel's series, Big Ideas for a Small Planet, a featured eco-advocate on the syndicated celebrity home makeover show The Ecozone Project, and the host of the Equator HD sustainability series Keep it Green.

Sethi served on the board of advisors for New York City-based NPR station WNYC, and on the board of directors for the National Radio Project. In addition, she is featured as an environmental "messenger" in Vanity Fair's 2007 Green Issue and has appeared as an environmental expert on various TV programs including The Oprah Winfrey Show,^[2] The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and Martha.

Sethi has been named the No. 6 Eco-hero of the Planet in the UK's Independent and was recognized as an environmental leader in Variety's "Women's Impact Report".^[3] She interviewed Al Gore on climate change for MSN^[4] and has created podcasts on environmental issues for the Alliance for Climate Protection^[5].

Simran is the Lacy C. Haynes Professional Chair at the University of Kansas School of Journalism & Mass Communication.
