Review

Kids' albums generally come in two formats: real people singing with their real voices, like Tom Chapin and Joanie Bartels, and character-sung songs, such as the Chipmunks or Barney. This disc fits in the latter category, and as with any such albums, it's as much the appeal of the characters and their voices as the selection of material that will determine the success of the recording. The Puzzle Placers fit somewhere in between the aforementioned examples: not as easy on the ear as Barney and Friends, but leagues above the earsplitting warble of the Chipmunks (the kids' answer to the Bee Gees). The songs are generally easy fun, and are arranged and performed with sparkle and personality (another hallmark of the Barney recordings). A little of the dog and cat songs will go a long way with adults, but kids are sure to enjoy the whole thing. ~ Ross Boissoneau, All Music Guide
