Architecture and Landscaping: Sir Matthew Wyatt

(1805–86)

English architect and speculative builder. He was the son of the sculptor Matthew Cotes Wyatt (1772–1862) and the grandson of James Wyatt. He built and designed Victoria Square, London (1838–40), created houses in Stanhope Terrace, Westbourne and Bathurst Streets, and developed land bounded by Connaught, Southwick, and Hyde Park Streets and Hyde Park Square (1830s and 1840s). Many houses were put up in collaboration with his brother George (d. 1880).
