Sir Ruthven Murgatroyd
Murgatroyd, Sir Ruthven (Sullivan: Ruddigore). Baritone. Brother of Sir Despard Murgatroyd. Disguised as Robin Oakapple he woos Rose. He is revealed by his foster-brother as heir to the baronetcy and its curse — he must commit a crime a day. Refusing to lead this life, he will be judged by his ancestors, who emerge from their portraits led by Sir Roderic. Robin is able to prove that Roderic should never have died, so Robin is no longer the bad baron and can marry Rose. Duet (with Rose): I know a maid. Created (1887) by George Grossmith.
