Sirikitiya Jensen ("Khun Mai" or "Khun Sirikitiya Mahidol" in Thailand) (Thai: สิริกิติยา เจนเ่ซ่น) is a member of the Thai Royal Family. Born on 18 March, 1985, to Princess Ubol Ratana Rajakanya (eldest daughter of King Bhumibol Adulyadej) and American Peter Ladd Jensen (who announced their divorce in 1998), she is the King's granddaughter. Khun Sirikitiya is commonly known by her nickname, Mai, which translates into "new, shining, young, beautiful".

Early life

Khun Mai (Sirikitiya) is the youngest of three children. Her older sister is Khun Ploypailin. Her older brother was Khun Poom Jensen (Khun Bhumi). Khun Mai and her siblings grew up in San Diego, California, United States. Both she and her brother attended Torrey Pines High School, a public school. Khun Bhumi, was born with autism and required specialized schooling. In 2001, after their parents' divorce, Mai's mother and the two older siblings moved back to Thailand. Mai stayed in San Diego, with her father and graduated from high school in 2003. After high school, she attended University of California, Riverside. [1]

College years

Khun Mai's brother, Khun Bhumi, drowned in the 2004 tsunami, having spent the day jet skiing in Khao Lak, Phang Nga province. Their grandfather, King Bhumibol Adulyadej, granted Bhumi a royal cremation ceremony, over which he and the Queen presided. Khun Mai attended, with the Royal Family.

Now at New York University (class of 2007), Khun Mai is majoring in East Asian Studies, with a focus on the histories of Japan and China.[2]
