The Franciscan Alliance (formerly the Sisters of St. Francis Health Services) keeps watch over a family of hospitals. The not-for-profit organization operates roughly a dozen hospitals in Indiana and south suburban Chicago. The hospitals house about 3,500 beds; in addition to inpatient acute care services, they operate numerous outpatient facilities and medical practices within their local service areas. Other subsidiaries and affiliates supply health insurance, perform clinical laboratory tests, offer home health services, and provide construction, purchasing, and IT services to the system. Franciscan Alliance was founded and is owned by the Sisters of St. Francis of Perpetual Adoration.
