Sitara-i-Imtiaz or Sitara-e-Imtiaz is the third highest honour given to a civilian or military personnel in Pakistan.
Sitara-i-Imtiaz, which translates as the star of excellence, is an honour given by the Government of Pakistan to both the military and civilians. It is awarded for distinguished merit in the fields of literature, arts, sports, medicine, or science for civilians. Once a year it is announced on the Independence Day and given on Pakistan Day to the people of Pakistan by the President of Pakistan. For those in the military it is given after distinguished service and is also the highest medal award that can be awarded to those at the rank of Brigadier/Major General.
