Slippin' Around - Again is the second of two CDs that have all of trombonist Miff Mole's recordings as a leader (other than two big band numbers from 1937) prior to 1944. This CD begins with six alternate takes (all former test pressings) from Red and Miff's Stompers. Also included are the last dates by Mole's Molers with trumpeter Phil Napoleon taking over for Red Nichols and the members of the supporting cast including Dudley Fosdick on mellophone, Fud Livingston on reeds, pianist Arthur Schutt, guitarist Carl Kress and Jimmy Dorsey. Also on this CD are two numbers from a radio broadcast in 1936 that feature Mole, and a pair of selections (plus an alternate take) from Mole's only session as a leader during the swing era. Those transitional performance show that Mole had lost much of his individuality in favor of sounding like Jack Teagarden, but he was still a strong dixieland-oriented player. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
