Saturday Night Live

• Ellen Cleghorne, Siobhan Fallon and Robert Smigel's first episode as cast members

• Ted Danson, Kelsey Grammer, Woody Harrelson and George Wendt make appearances as themselves in the opening monologue.
• In the live show, Don Pardo's timing while announcing the opening credits was considerably off; he re-recorded the announcements correctly for subsequent repeat and syndicated airings (though it was left intact for that night's delayed West coast airing.)
• This episode was short of scripted material in its original broadcast, and as the night drew to a close the "band shots" (short shots of the SNL Band playing out to commercial which were common during that era) became noticeably longer to fill time. At the end of the show there was nearly 5 minutes left to fill. To fill time during the Goodnights, Alley ad-libbed about how in light of the news of the day, the cast was great and didn't sexually harass her or touch her breasts, at which point Grammer, Petty and a few cast members all mock-groped her. She then prompted Mike Myers to sing a song of his choice, which was "O, Canada," the anthem of Myers' homeland, Canada. Though the cast joined him for the first few well-known bars, they quickly trailed off, leaving him singing by himself. Alley hums "Killin' time..." and then signs off. However there was still about 2 minutes extra along with the minute for credits. About halfway through the credit roll, Al Franken, thinking they were off-air, leads the rest of the cast off-stage. The cameras move off of empty Home Base to the SNL Band for the remaining minutes of the show. In syndicated 60-minute versions, this ending is left intact until the end of the credits, cutting off the band coverage.

• Edward Furlong appears as his Terminator 2 character John Connor in a Terminator parody.
• Martin Scorsese appears as himself in The Chris Farley Show.

• At age 11, Macaulay Culkin, is the youngest male host of SNL.
• Kieran Culkin appears as Froggy in a Richmeister sketch.
• George Wendt reprises his role as Bob Swerski in Bill Swerski's Super Fans.

• This episode was last aired on December 22, 2007.

• During the live closing credits, the members of Nirvana pretended to "make out" with each other, an event referenced in the original liner notes to their album Incesticide. As a result, NBC replaced the closing credits with those from the rehearsal taping for all subsequent re-runs.
• Rob Morrow shows a clip from the "Substitute Judge" sketch on the season five episode hosted by Rodney Dangerfield during the monologue, pointing out that Morrow played one of the jurors.

• Madonna appears in a Coffee Talk sketch as a panelist. In the end of the Coffee Talk sketch, Barbra Streisand makes an appearance as herself (Madonna, Myers and Roseanne were not told in advance that Streisand would be making an appearance, so their reaction in the sketch is their actual reaction to her surprise appearance).
• During the Red Hot Chili Peppers' performance of "Stone Cold Bush", singer Anthony Kiedis inadvertently hits guitarist John Frusciante with his microphone. This upset the already unhappy Frusciante, who then proceeded to play "Under the Bridge" off key and scream nonsense during the chorus.

• A syndicated 33 minute version was relased on VHS in 1993 titled "The Best Of Saturday Night Live, Celebrity Spots". It includes the cold opening, Seinfeld's monologue, "Stand Up & Win", "Make You Think", and the Superman radio show.

• Joe Pesci was originally supposed to host this episode, but had to back out due to a prior engagement. Tom Hanks spoofed Pesci's role on GoodFellas after his monologue in a sketch with Phil Hartman.
