Biography

Taking its name from the novel Catch 22, indie rock band Snowden includes Chandler Rentz (drums), Corinne Lee (bass, keyboard), David Payne (guitar), and Jordan Jeffares (vocals, guitar, keyboard). Snowden had its start in 2004 in Jeffares' bedroom during his senior year in college. The demo recordings impressed Jeffares' brother, who introduced him to like-minded musicians. Now a quartet, the band found local success with a self-released EP, which encouraged them to travel to New York for shows. The effort paid off, and Snowden found themselves opening for groups such as the Unicorns, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, and Arcade Fire. The band's debut LP, Anti-Anti was released on Jade Tree in August 2006 and features production by Erik Wofford (Explosions in the Sky, My Morning Jacket). ~ Kenyon Hopkin, All Music Guide

History

Snowden started out in Jordan Jeffares' bedroom, where he recorded demos. These demos impressed Jeffares' brother Preston, who then introduced other musicians to Jeffares, thus beginning Snowden. Snowden self released The Snowden EP, which was received with immense local success. They landed spots opening for groups such as Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, and Arcade Fire. In 2006, Jade Tree signed the band and released their debut album "Anti-Anti." The album gained immediate attention, as evidenced by its making the "most blogged" band on the internet according to elbo.ws and getting airplay by Steve Lamacq (BBC). In 2007, the band released videos for "Like Bullets" and "Anti-Anti" and made radio appearances around the country. They recorded special features for Comcast, AOL/Spin, and had a concert at Manhattan's Bowery Ballroom (recorded Nov 2006) released on DVD by Baeble Music. In addition, they embarked upon a full US tour opening for Kings of Leon, and were invited to open several European dates as well.

The band subsequently embarked on a series of small tours with bands including Malajube, ¡FORWARD, RUSSIA!, and Twin Tigers in order to test out and refine new songs. Snowden was the headlining act at Day 2 of Corndogorama 2008. In the same year, they parted ways with the Jade Tree label.

Snowden will release their sophomore album as well as an EP with exclusive material in 2009.
