Review

In its continual effort to document all things that could possibly be lost to popular culture, Tigersushi once again knocks one out of the park by collecting some of the most no wave moments from France during the years in which it mattered most (1977-1983). There's something here for just about everyone's tastes: punk, funk, and rigid and stark electro beats, all jambalaya-ized into a giant melting pot of existential French joy. Curators Volga Select take great care in sequencing the tracks, but it's hard to qualify many of them as "lost classics," as a few numbers on the disc haven't exactly aged as well as advertised. However, that is not to discredit the compilation as a whole. The influence that many of these tracks have had (intentionally or not) on many modern-day producers can easily be heard. It's a strikingly beautiful cross section of an otherwise all but forgotten period in time that will have even the most elite record snob scouring the bins for more. ~ Rob Theakston, All Music Guide
