Here is another spicy take on Nuevo Flamenco for the legions of Ottmar Liebert fans, with a few added twists. Soprano sax by Aurelio Calabro on two cuts and flute by Wilson de Oliveira on "Sueno" embellish the dual flamenco guitar attack, which alternatingly glides and marches through the 14 tracks. Punchy bass and four hands of percussion provide the dynamic flair, but it is the twin talents of Obo + Jorge (aka El Duo Flamenco) that propel this spirited and occasionally experimental effort. There are moments of respite, however, such as the beautiful "Saleblanca," one of the tracks that features Obo in a solo setting without Jorge. Among the mostly original pieces from Andalusia and Latin America is a fine version of The Beatles' "Michelle" which spotlights Calabro's sensuous sax. ~ Backroads Music/Heartbeats, All Music Guide
