Game Description

It is the year 2159 and Earth has been overcome by the forces of the planet Reticulon. Fortunately Earth's best scientists and technicians have been at a secret base on the Moon developing a super fighter ship, SolarStriker.

Your objective is to pilot the SolarStriker in an attempt to free Earth from the Reticulon forces. Battle your way through 6 levels of play. Shoot lasers or missles at the Reticulon army. Grab power-ups along the way to gain more shot power and eventually turbo missles.

Review: Overall

SolarStriker is a typical shooter. From an overhead view you move your spaceship in 8 directions as the screen scrolls vertically upward. Fire your weapons as fast as you can in an effort to destroy everything you encounter.

Using either of the buttons you fire your weapons while moving around to avoid enemies. The enemies come from all directions and have various attack patterns. SolarStriker contains 19 basic enemies, 6 bosses, and 3 sub-bosses.

Pods are the only other item that fly across the screen. Shooting pods will turn them into power-ups for your ship. Your shot power can be increased up to three times. The spaceship begins with single shot power and can be increased to double shot, triple shot, and turbo missles.

A total of 6 levels take you primarily through space but also over a city. You only have 3 ships and no continues to try to win the game with. Extra ships can be earned for every 50,000 points. Only one shot will destroy you which makes this game rather difficult.

The graphics leave a lot to be desired but this is the Game Boy. You fly over a gray background with either some dots and circles representing stars and planets or some trees and buildings representing a city. Sounds are actually decent. Weapons and explosions are the basic effects heard with some background music.

SolarStriker is a decent shooter but it is nothing great. Unless you really, really like space themed shooters this game is not worth the time or effort. It is very bland and too difficult to get through. ~ Jonathan Sutyak, All Game Guide
