Solid Snake

Game Character: Solid Snake

Character Bio

Solid Snake's colorful history began in 1995 when, during the Outer Heaven Revolt as portrayed in the original Metal Gear, he had his first shot at fame as FOX-HOUND's newest member. Snake had been recruited from the U.S. Marines after his performance in a Grenada mission to stop the small but powerful terrorist nation known as Outer Heaven deep within southern Africa. Led by former shepherd boy Vermon CaTaffy, the group's plan was to use the Metal Gear, a huge weapon of mass destruction, on the world. NATO sent in Gray Fox, the organization's most experienced agent, to deal with the situation. When he was kidnapped, however, Snake sprung into action. Once he rescued Gray Fox, Snake forced Outer Heaven to surrender.

When he attempted to leave the nation, Snake was confronted by FOX-HOUND's commander, Big Boss. As it turned out, the high-ranking officer had purposely chosen FOX-HOUND's most inexperienced agent because he thought that he would fail. Big Boss was really the mastermind behind the whole Outer Heaven affair and saw his organization burn to nothing once Snake defeated him. Though Snake's career had not lasted long, he decided to retire after the mission.

FOX-HOUND director Roy Campbell called Snake out of retirement in 1999 to infiltrate the military state of Zanzibar, located in the middle of Asia. His mission was to free Dr. Kio Marv, the inventor of the oil refining microbe OILIX, who had been taken hostage by the country. Zanzibar planned to take control of the world by allowing the worldwide energy crisis to continue.

Snake successfully completed the mission by retrieving the OILIX manufacturing process and destroying Metal Gear, which had been brought from Outer Heaven by Zanzibar's new leader of the mercenary corps -- none other than Gray Fox. Before all was done with this mission, however, there was one more surprise for Snake -- Big Boss was back! But, true soldier that he is, Snake defeated the terrorist leader and once again saved the world.

After his second confrontation with Big Boss, Snake retired again and retreated to the Twin Lakes area of Alaska. Here he lived in a log house and picked berries when he was not feeling the effects of his post-traumatic stress disorder, a result of the two missions.

Unfortunately for Snake, the Next Generation Special Forces soon attacked and took over the nuclear weapons disposal facility on Shadow Moses Island in Alaska. He was called out of retirement again to destroy the members of FOX-HOUND who put the nuclear warheads around the island in hopes of regaining the remains of Big Boss.

At some point in his career (as seen in Snake's Revenge), Solid Snake also had to face the man said to have won the "Merciless Man of the Year" award for eight years running, Higharolla Kockamamie. He and his subordinates took over Fortress Fanatic on the outskirts of Ishkababil. Snake had to infiltrate the fortress and defeat Kockamamie before he took over the world. In order to defeat the madman, Snake had to defeat an armed battleship, a loaded locomotive and Kockamamie's own nuclear attack tank.

PERSONALITY: Snake's attitude has been constant throughout. He dislikes being bothered by anyone -- especially for missions in which he must risk his life -- and just wants to be left alone.

EDUCATION: Among other things (he's fluent in six languages, indicating some degree of schooling), he went to FOX-HOUND's sneak attack school.

OCCUPATION: Currently unemployed.
