History

Solo Mobile initially began as Bell Mobility's prepaid brand. Over time, the brand was pulled from the market, then relaunched as a youth-minded mobile carrier with per-second billing on its monthly packages and per-minute billing on its prepaid plans.

Introduction of agreements

Solo Mobile offers the majority of their monthly plans on 2 and 3 year terms. Most Solo phones on a 2 year contract cost less than the identical model on a 3 year contract with parent company Bell. Plans are available with shorter terms assuming the customer has their own hardware (Solo branded only as foreign ESNs are not supported).

Blabble Facebook Application

Blabble is a Facebook application launched by Solo Mobile in September 2008. A photo tagging application, users can add quotes through speech bubbles on to photos within their existing Facebook albums.

Network

Currently, Solo Mobile uses Bell's CDMA network. Solo is also sharing a newly launched HSPA+/GSM Network with Virgin Mobile Canada. They do not have any HSPA phones yet, however SIM cards are available for purchase. Solo's initial HSPA coverage is small, but when outside Solo's coverage areas, customers are able to roam on Bell's new HSPA+ Network.
