German family of artists. Caspar Sommer, a cabinetmaker from Kocherstetten, moved to K?nzelsau in Hohenlohe c. 1642. His son Eberhardt Sommer (1610-77) was a cabinetmaker and builder, and another son, Johann Eberhardt Sommer (1614-93), moved in 1666 to Strasbourg, where he became a member of the guild of Buchsenmacher. There he signed and elaborately carved two gunstocks with battle scenes from prints by Matth?us Merian the elder after Antonio Tempesta.
