Review

The second 10" LP by Mabel Mercer to show up on Atlantic Records reflects the unexpected success of its 1953 predecessor -- LPs were still relatively uncommon releases in the first half of the '50s. The nine songs include numbers by Alec Wilder, Cole Porter, Kurt Weill, Dietz & Schwartz, and Bart Howard, among others. Among the highlights, Mercer gives Porter's "From This Moment On" a charmingly swinging treatment reminiscent of her approach to "Just One of Those Things" on the preceding volume. ~ Bruce Eder, All Music Guide
