Sonic the Hedgehog

Game Character: Sonic the Hedgehog

Character Bio

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES: Sonic's Red Power Sneakers, that were invented by Dr. Ovi Kintobor to protect him from the heat that the soles of his feet generate. Sonic first turned blue when he ran at the speed of sound. Supersonic shock waves made his quills blue hot and he remains that color through today.

HOME: The planet Mobius.

BEHIND-THE-SCENES CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT: Sonic developer Yuji Naka wanted to create a different type of game where the characters ran at full speed. After inventing Sonic, he decided to concentrate on keeping operational control simple. Naka made Sonic blue because the color represented peace, trust and coolness. He decided to go against the norm of introducing cute and flawless game characters and worked hard in making Sonic the cool blue dude with a 'tude.
