Review

This 18-track collection isn't the high point of the Soul Patrol series, but it has its moments. The pair of Joe Simon entries, including a cover of the Supremes' "(You Keep Me) Hangin' On," are too slick to convey much emotion, and there are a few other throwaways as well. But "Hurts So Good" is a fine example of what Millie Jackson could do with a good ballad before she started talking her way through many of her records; and Roy C's "Shotgun Wedding" (with sound effects that you'll swear were stolen from the Olympics' "Western Movies") is a soulful delight.
