Biography

Soul Summit are not a group in the normal sense but are instead an all-star collective -- in the tradition of the old Stax and Motown-style soul revues -- who got together for only one performance at the 2007 Berks Jazz Festival in Reading, PA, a night that was produced and recorded by producer Jason Miles for the album Live at the Berks Jazz Fest!, which was released a year later by Shanachie Records. The revue featured performances on classic soul tunes from vocalists Maysa, Susan Tedeschi, and Mike Mattison; saxophonists Karl Denson, Richard Elliot, Dave Mann, and Barry Danielian; bassist Bob Babbitt; guitarists Reggie Young and Sherrod Barnes; and trumpeter Tony Kadlek. ~ Steve Leggett, All Music Guide
