[Etymology: Lat: spatium, ‘space’] geometry A term applied in both the two- and the three-dimensional contexts to mean the complete rotation, i.e. the turn around the circle or about the sphere. Hence, in plane angle it is the revolution, the turn, = 2π rad; in solid angle it is the sphere, = 4π sr. It is more used in the latter context, but more needed in the former, where the magnetic effects of an electric current in a coil are so fundamentally important (for which it has been suggested it become a base unit of the SI).
