The SPDR Trust, Series 1 is a unit investment trust that issues Standard & Poor's Depositary Receipts (SPDRs, or "spiders"), a tracking stock for the Standard & Poor's 500 Composite Stock Price Index (the S&P 500), consisting of the US's largest companies. SPDRs are worth roughly one-tenth of the index and are designed to mirror its daily undulations. Some of the trust's most heavily weighted components are AT&T, Citigroup, Exxon Mobil, General Electric, IBM, Johnson & Johnson, Microsoft, and Procter & Gamble. Standard & Poor's is not affiliated with the SPDR Trust but does receive trademark licensing fees.
