In Rambouillet, the Rue du Général de Gaulle has many shops and gourmet boutiques. You can find clothing, chocolates, jewelry and farm products here. Don’t miss the antiques shops and decorative tile boutique Dames de Faïence around the corner on Rue Raymond Poincairé.
Antique hunters should make the effort to go to the Bois l’Epicier (☎ 01 30 46 12 12, www.boislepicier.fr), an antiques village housing about 20 boutiques all together in an old farm property with a 1950s-vintage bistro in the center. Open daily, 10am to 6:30pm; bistro open Tuesday through Sunday for lunch, Wednesday through Saturday for dinner. It’s just off the D61 from Houdan (from Paris on the RN12 direction Dreux, exit Houdan center, then at the first roundabout take the direction ZA Bois l’Epicier).
