Spender

Plot

Bert Lytell stars in this heartwarming Metro comedy-drama. Dick Bisbee (Lytell) is the nephew of T.W. Bisbee, a miserly factory owner (Thomas Jefferson). Because one of the managers is out to get him, Dick loses his job. Stetson (William V. Mong), a paternal older man, offers to put Dick up until he is once again employed. Dick is more than happy to accept, especially after he sees Helen Stetson (Mary Anderson). Old Bisbee, unhappy with his life and with his advisors, begins to listen to what his nephew has to say. Under Dick's careful tutelage, Bisbee learns how to spend money and have a good time. The old man also finds vicarious joy in the romance between Dick and Helen -- it replaces the love he never knew in his youth. Needless to say, the wealthy old man is Dick's way out of poverty and unemployment. ~ Janiss Garza, All Movie Guide
