Review

The Spice Girls, as well as their managers and songwriters, are nothing if not clever, and Spiceworld, the group's second album, illustrates exactly how sharp they are. Conventional wisdom dictates that Spiceworld should be a weak facsimile of Spice, which itself featured a handful of great singles surrounded by filler. Conventional wisdom, in this case, is wrong -- Spiceworld is a better record than its predecessor, boasting a more consistent (and catchier) set of songs and an intoxicating sense of fun. Instead of merely rewriting Spice, Spiceworld consolidates and expands the group's style, adding Latin flourishes ("Spice Up Your Life"), kitschy blues ("The Lady Is a Vamp"), and stomping, neo-Motown blue-eyed soul in the vein of Culture Club ("Stop"). The girls -- Mel C. in particular -- are actually turning into good vocalists, and each song plays to their strengths, giving each Spice a chance to shine. Best of all, each song has a strong melody and a strong, solid beat, whether it's a ballad or a dance number. It's a pure, unadulterated guilty pleasure and some of the best manufactured mainstream dance-pop of the late '90s. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

Spiceworld is the second album by British pop group the Spice Girls, released in 1997 (see 1997 in music). It is also the name of their tie-in film. It was released in Britain the same year their first album, Spice, was released in the US. The album became a huge hit worldwide, lengthening the so-called "Spicemania" fever at that time. It produced 3 top twenty singles in the US, four top 2 singles (including 3 number one singles) in the UK, and 5 number one singles in Asia. It has sold 20 million copies worldwide.[1] This was also the last album to feature Geri Halliwell until the release of their Greatest Hits album 10 years later, in 2007.

"Step to Me"

The track "Step to Me" is available on the Japanese edition of the album between "Move Over" and "Do It", becoming track 7.

"Step to Me" was released as a promotional single in the United Kingdom from Pepsi (who the Spice Girls were endorsing at the time) on Monday 28 July 1997, following an extensive advertisement campaign. The only way fans could get hold of the single was to collect and send off 20 ring pull tabs or tokens from promotional cans and bottles of Pepsi featuring the Spice Girls. It was not available in high street retailers.
