Spider-Man

Games: Spider-Man

Game Description

The second game for the Genesis entitled Spider-Man (the first was released in 1991 and had better controls and superior punch-and-kick action), this Spidey extravaganza is loaded down with elements from the comic book, including the title character's ability to swing on a webline, shoot web bolts and crawl on walls. Many of Web-Head's famous foes are on hand, including tough-to-defeat-bosses Green Goblin and Venom, and members of the Fantastic Four even show up on occasion to lend a helping hand. The intro theme is from the cartoon series, and the graphics, though dark at times, look pretty good. There're also light puzzles (such as switches to pull) and some non-linear elements. Unfortunately, the game is bogged down by clunky controls, choppy gameplay, and disjointed enemy battles.

Roots & Influences

The first super-hero video games appeared on the Atari VCS, but Spider-Man has much more in common with later titles such as Batman for the NES and Spider-Man (1991) for the Genesis.
