Biography

Italian DJ and producer Cristiano Spiller -- better known simply as Spiller -- sat down to compose his very first tune in 1995, using a home PC and sampler. Barely two years later, the 6'9" Venetian was making a big noise around the world with a single, Laguna's "Spiller From Rio." The Latin-flavored house track swiftly became a club anthem and made it into the top ten on the Billboard dance charts. Not long after, Spiller applied his golden touch as a producer to tunes by high-profile artists such as Bob Sinclar ("I Feel for You"), Gloria Gaynor ("Reunion"), Run-D.M.C. ("My Funky Valentine"), and Smoke City ("Numbers"). In 1999 he again set the clubs alight with another house single, "Batacuda" -- a new take on Marcos Valle's original. The following year he became one of the best-known Italian musicians thanks to his next single "Groovejet (If This Ain't Love)." Named after a Miami nightclub, the widely acclaimed disco house track was initially a moderately successful instrumental, but exploded in popularity after injected it with the vocals of the U.K.'s Sophie Ellis-Bextor (formerly of the alternative group the Audience). Along with "Modjo's Lady," "Groovejet" was arguably the biggest club tune of the year and won the top spot on singles and dance charts in many countries. ~ David Peter Wesolowski, All Music Guide

Cristiano Spiller is an Italian DJ.

He was noted at one stage for being the tallest DJ in the world at reported heights from 6'9" up to just over 7'[citation needed], or 2.05–2.15 meters. He had a #1 hit in the UK, Italy, Australia and other countries with the hit single, "Groovejet (If This Ain't Love)", featuring Sophie Ellis-Bextor, released in 2000. The video for the song shows the two missing each other repeatedly in Bangkok, he signing autographs and generally finding his height makes life there difficult; she singing wistfully sitting at various tables in bars and taking a Tuk-tuk ride (while he just about fits into a taxicab).

Biography

When he was a teenager, he was already introducing himself to the world of Italian house and dance music. In 1997, he released his first single, "Laguna".

In 1998, he signed a music deal with the British record company, Positiva Records, subsidiary of EMI UK, releasing his first single in the UK entitled "Batucada".

In 1999, he released "Mighty Miami EP", a maxi-single including the instrumental track "Groovejet".

In 2000, the vocal version was released. "Groovejet (If This Ain't Love)" featuring the British singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor (formerly of theaudience) peaked at #1 in the UK, Australia and many other countries, becoming one of the most successful dance records of the year and winning multiple awards. It was also the first song to be played on an iPod according to technology journalist Steven Levy and the BBC's TOTP2 Goes Disco![1]. Groovejet sold over 2,000,000 copies worldwide.

In 2002, he released "Cry Baby" in UK.

In 2003, Spiller decided to take control over his own productions and thus established his own independent label Nano Records, based in Venice, Italy.

In 2004 a single titled "Sola" was released by Positiva. In the UK the single was heavily supported by Pete Tong on BBC radio.

In 2006, Spiller released "Jumbo", last single released to date, peaked straight to #1 on the Buzz Chart. Due out soon, Spiller's new version of "Sola" featuring vocals by Theo (Freestylers "Push Up"). !
