Spontaneous Combustion is a 1990 film directed by Tobe Hooper. The plot of this supernatural science fiction thriller revolves around a young man with psychokinetic powers. Actor Brad Dourif plays the role of Sam, who learns that his parents were part of an atomic bomb experiment. As an adult, Sam discovers he has the power of pyrokinesis. He is able to control fire and electricity but with terrible consequences to his body afterwards.[1]

The cast includes actors Melinda Dillon and Cynthia Bain. Director Tobe Hooper was creator of the screenplay and story, with writer Howard Goldberg. Zachary Selig, a spiritist, was the consultant of paranormal phenomena for Hooper and the film.[2]

It was nominated for best film in the 1991 Fantasporto International Fantasy Film Awards.[3]
