A professionally-trained person who observes, describes, and explains the various psychological factors that influence various aspects of participation and performance in sport and physical activity. Sport psychologists support sports people with behavioural problems but they also help athletes to acquire psychological skills so that they can cope with the unusual demands of competition. Sport psychologists are concerned with both enhancing performance and improving the quality of the sport experience.
